Mustache Baby Shower Cake!

Sunday, April 7, 2013

I had SO much fun making this cake! I think this goes in my top 3 favorite cakes I've made. The theme was absolutely gorgeous and the Mama-to-be had a graphic designer make her a whole slew of decorations in her theme. They were all so awesome!

The cake was a white bottom tier with raspberry filling, almond buttercream and fondant. The top tier was chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and fondant. The cupcakes were half chocolate with cream cheese frosting and half grapefruit with champagne buttercream. Decadent? Yes, yes it was!

This picture convinces me I NEED a storefront!

Black and White Cake

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

OK, so not exactly black and white so much as chocolate and white, but you get the idea. This weekend I made this half-n-half wedding cake. The bottom layer was chocolate with strawberry filling and the top two layers were white with strawberry filling. The cake was frosted with half white buttercream and half chocolate buttercream. There were also tuxedo dressed chocolate covered strawberries (which I forgot to photograph!).

This cake was really challenging for several reasons. The first, the client wanted to pick the cake up themselves so I had to make sure it was structurally very sound. This meant lots of dowels! It was also challenging because of the half and half component. This required a lot of forethought and planning. The chocolate ganache drizzle on the outside was also a bit difficult. I had to make sure it fell just right and was worried it would melt the buttercream. But everything turned out great!

All in all, I was very happy with the outcome of the cake and most importantly, so was the client! Onto the next one for this weekend...I'm seeing mustaches, blue and chevron patterns everywhere!

Here are some process pictures...

I Mustache You

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I am absolutely in love with the mustache trend! You can imagine I was beyond elated when I was asked to do a mustache themed baby shower cake. Seriously? So adorable! This is the inspiration cake the client gave me, along with a copy of her invites which also incorporate mustaches and chevron (my fav!). I'm going to incorporate more of the chevron pattern from the invites. It will be a two-tier cake covered in fondant. Super excited to work on this cake in a few weeks!

Next weekend I am working on a cake that is sure to challenge me. The bride wants a three-tier square cake with a vertical split of half white buttercream frosting and half chocolate frosting AND chocolate drizzled on the chocolate side and scroll work on the white side. WOW! Challenge accepted. Bring it on buttercream, bring it!

Stay tuned for the finished product of these two cakes and (hopefully) I can sneak in some Easter goodies too!

Happy Spring!

A Whole Lotta Love

Thursday, February 21, 2013

I'm a little late on a Valentine's post but I still want to share some of the goodies I was whipping up last week. Last weekend I made small boxes filled with pink (duh) peanut butter cookies with a kiss, sugar cookies, chocolate truffles and then a smaller container of chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting. These packages went to some very special people in our lives, our 'babysitters' aka my fiance's family and my parents who watch our daughter while we're at work. A LOT of love went into creating these packages. Best part, everyone loved their tasty gifts!

Everyone loved their special packages!

I also received an order from an old school friend to create a special gift for his fiance. Since I was already baking up a storm, I included the same items from above. Although, I tried a different sugar cookie recipe and modified it a bit. These sugar cookies are amazing! I'm talking about melt in your mouth sugary-buttery goodness! The cake box I used was much larger so it was a complete package that included the cupcakes. I spoke to my friend after the goodies were delivered and his fiance LOVED them! What a great way to tell the lady you love how special she is.

For now, XOXO

NM Wedding Guide Bridal Fair and a Cupcake giveaway

Friday, February 1, 2013

I was asked to make two dozen cupcakes for the NM Wedding Guide Bridal Fair to be given away as part of a giveaway for two lucky brides. There were two types of cupcakes: chocolate and grapefruit both with champagne buttercream. I wanted a soft-airy vibe and achieved that by using soft pinks and sparkly gold.

Holiday Open House

Thursday, January 31, 2013

I was commissioned to show as a vendor at a Holiday Open House for Nicole's Boutique. I made what would be a top tier wedding cake. White cake filled and decorated with champagne buttercream. The cake was topped with a fondant red vintage flower and dragdes. I also made red velvet and white cake cake pops to complete the table setting.
